There is no photographer licence — so check something else

Photography is unlicensed in Australia, and anyone can advertise as a professional. What protects you is the contract: who owns the images, what happens if the photographer is ill, how many edited photographs you actually receive, and how long they hold the files. A photographer working with children or in schools generally needs a Working With Children Check, which is a real credential you can ask to see.

Otherwise the contract is the credential: get the deliverables, the date, the usage rights and the backup arrangements in writing before you pay a deposit.

It is also why the ranking here weights review volume more heavily than review score. A business cannot buy its position, and a handful of glowing reviews does not move it far.
